The Government has today announced a £50 million expansion fund to resuscitate selective schools, thus hopefully enabling grammar schools to offer further places for the students who have passed the 11-plus exam.
Many people disagree with selective education so this news has caused some controversy. In my view I think that parents who are prepared to invest in their children’s future, instead of spending their earnings on other luxuries, should not be criticised. They already pay their taxes which contribute to the general education of students in this country, students who attend university are required to pay fees, a system introduced by a previous Labour Government. Therefore paying extra for education, is acknowledged by both main parties, as it does undoubtedly help students achieve their ambitions.
